Help Us Conserve Spruce Acres Farm – Forever!

ALT has a unique opportunity to purchase and conserve a beautiful 22.6 acre property, Spruce Acres Farm on the Portsmouth/Middletown line that is in immediate danger of development. As part of the Sisson Pond watershed, an important water source for our island community, Spruce Acres has a very high conservation value. It abuts other preserved land parcels and, if conserved, would enlarge the Center Island Greenway and preserve a core of open space and wildlife/bird habitat – forever. In addition, its publicly accessible open space, hiking trails and 100% USDA prime soil make it a superb current and future asset for all Islanders and visitors.

Please join the many individuals, businesses, and municipalties who have pledged their support of this $2.3 million project. All contributions are welcomed and appreciated!  Donations of $1,000 or more will be included in the Leadership Launch circle. As a Leadership donor, you will be invited to private events including cocktail receptions and guided trails walks on the property.

Every bit helps; thank you for your contribution to building a foundation for the future of ALT.

The acquisition of Spruce Acres Farm will build the capacity of ALT as a whole. We would have sufficient land and structures to lead programming and outreach, store necessary equipment for land management activities, and provide hands-on volunteer training to better manage our lands and conservation initiatives throughout Aquidneck Island. For future fundraising and education, Spruce Acres could serve as an exemplary site to connect our members to the land and emphasize the importance of conservation on a fast developing island. The conservation of Spruce Acres Farm will provide permanent open space, ensure irreplaceable watershed protection, and create healthy recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike, in perpetuity.
