How to Conserve Your Farm
Rhode Island has lost 80% of its productive farmland from development and forest succession on abandoned pastures and fields – Aquidneck Island is no exception. With each year, prime soils are being paved over as the pace of development increases.
Auidneck Land Trust works with a number of partners to protect farmland in perpetuity through purchasing conservation easements across Aquidneck Island. Conservation easements are voluntary legal agreements that permanently limit development or certain land use to preserve the property’s conservation values. We understand farmland here on the island has high market value and we will offer funds to buy development rights.
We’ll work with you to see what conservation option might be the best fit and how to structure the conservation easement to work with your agricultural goals. We can also help connect you with advisors and planners.
