Your generous donations are the lifeblood of our operations. Your support enables us to conserve open space, undertake projects to protect our water supply and watershed area, promote local food production, and educate local youth about conservation. With your help, ALT has conserved 2,580 acres of open space — over 10% of our island! — since 1990. Thank you!

Little Creek Preserve Trailside Park
Little Creek Preserve is a spectacular 15.6-acre property that abuts the Sakonnet Greenway Trail, off of Bramans Lane in Portsmouth. With the generous support of hundreds of donors, ALT has raised the funds required to conserve it forever. Your donation to the Trailside Park will help us make the necessary site improvements to make this property publicly accessible. Improvements include trail and boardwalk creation, parking upgrades, and park amenities such as benches and picnic tables. Every gift is important – thank you!
The Little Creek River headwaters originate from a freshwater spring on the property and eventually empty into the Sakonnet River, three miles to the south. The wetlands, headwaters, pond and natural spring make it extremely valuable from a water resources perspective. They provide excellent habitat for a range of amphibian and avian species, including songbirds and waterfowl. Wood ducks, spring peepers, woodchucks, turkeys, resident and migratory songbirds, barn owls and various small mammals are all at home on this beautiful site. Its conservation will expand recreational and educational opportunities from the existing trail system and create a larger network of protected wildlife areas on Aquidneck Island.
Our great thanks to those who have already made donations to Little Creek Preserve and the Trailside Park. Gifts over $1,000 are recognized as Leadership Gifts. Please consider making a gift to help ALT improve Little Creek for our community. Spruce Acres Farm
Spruce Acres Farm has been purchased and conserved, and will open later this year as the newest public park on the island. ALT asks your help in completing one of the signature projects on the property – the installation of 16 raised vegetable beds for use by local residents. We have been offered a Challenge Grant by the Ocean State Charities Trust to achieve this goal; when we have raised $5,700 toward the project from our loyal supporters, OSCT will provide the final $5,000.
The community gardens in Newport and Middletown are currently oversubscribed. Please help us provide a way for our island neighbors to enjoy the health benefits of growing fresh produce, connecting with the land, and learning about gardening. Another generous grantor, the 1772 Foundation, has already provided a ‘tool library’ for new gardeners to use. Your gift of any size is greatly appreciated and will help us reach our goal! Thank you.
