Aquidneck Land Trust has worked with landowners all over Aquidneck Island to protect land with conservation easements. This includes farmers, private landowners, municipalities, other non-profits, and the State. The first step is contacting us.
Give us a call at 401-849-2799 to talk about potential options — we will want to chat about the property and visit the site. The Land Trust has prioritized lands all over the Island to protect — we will assess the property for its conservation values as one of the first steps.
If there is mutual interest, a typical land deal takes anywhere from six months to multiple years depending on the amount of fundraising needed. We work with landowners and their advisors to make sure there are no surprises. Conservation easements protect conservation values but can allow for compatible use, an outzone for a structure, and so forth. As part of each deal, Aquidneck Land Trust must perform due diligence on each project including title work, appraisal, surveying, environmental assessment, baseline inventory, documenting of conservation values, and more. This process takes a while, but the result is a successful conservation project to celebrate!
