Moving Forward
With our plan in hand, we hope to work on solutions to preserve farming on Aquidneck Island. We plan to do this by:
- Continue preservation
- Land-link database
Connecting landowners and prospective farmers in the hopes to make land more accessible, including maintaining a land-link database for Aquidneck Island
- Supporting senior farmers
Supporting senior and retiring farmers as well as beginning farmers
- Succession planning
Offering succession planning and business planning resources and workshops with partners, and making connections between farmers and local experts on these topics
- Advocating policy
Advocating for farm-friendly policy at the local and state level
- Sustainable farming practices
Promoting farm practices that allow for multiple conservation benefits like wildlife habitat and protection of water resources
- Renewable energy
Developing a comprehensive plan for renewable energy in a manner that doesn’t jeopardize the local food system or farm and open space conservation

Support funding like state and municipal bonds for farm conservation
- Leasing your land
If you are a landowner with unused land, consider leasing a portion to a farmer looking for land
*The State’s Agricultural Land Preservation Commission has helped fund eight conservation deals on Aquidneck Island.
